TYPE OF YOGA:

Traditional Yoga at each level.

AtmaVikasa Yoga:

AtmaVikasa means the 'Evolution of the Soul'. This system of Yoga is an integration of four aspects. These are: 1) physcial, 2) physiological, 3) intellectual and 4) spiritual. The postures (asanas) are not taught not as physcial exercise or positions , but as a means to greater health and enhancing one's knowledge of themselves, and life.

The practice consists of the sun salutations (11 asanas practised combined with the breath), balancing and standing poses, back bends, seated poses and a closing sequence (series of 11 poses). Special focus is placed on correct alignment, awareness of the breath and internalizing the postures of yoga.

This system is taught in the tradition of Yogacharya Venkatesha whereby minimal physical adjustments are provided. The teachings follow that of Yogacharya who is known for not providing any physical adjustments at all to the student. Any adjustments provided at The Yoga Way are only with the intention to help students learn how to develop their muscles and to better understand the internal state of the posture. During these classes, the aim is to promote inner growth and awareness of one's own body and mind. Teaching is not one-way but an exchange, with students taking onus for their own practice and learning.

Back Bending Yoga:

Back bending is a unique practice of yogasanas (postures) with many psychological, philosophical and physical benefits. It is an extended format of AtmaVikasa Yoga. This program offers specialized training and instruction in learning the practice of back bends. Classes are structured to address the whole body and mind in a series of exercises. Very simple to more advanced postures are gradually introduced according to the students’ capacity, goals and needs. Classes are traditional whereby the focus is on the needs and abilities of the individual student. Counter asanas (poses) such as twists, forward bends and balancing asanas are explored during the classes. The Art of Back Bending manual is included. See Mysore Practice
